New ‘old’ pub name

Our first working day and first post under our ‘old’ new name ‘The Hammer and Pincers’. Lots of people have asked us why we have changed the name – for several reasons. I suppose its a bit like when you buy your home and you want to put your own stamp on it. Many locals already call it ‘The Hammers’ probably because of the pub signs used in the past. It was once called the Hammer and Pincers Inn, a reference to this has been found in a 1901 census. We also wanted to change the name to refresh peoples memory about the pub and hopefully re visit. We also just prefer it to The Blacksmiths Arms and think its quite cool! We timed it to coincide with our 1 year anniversary which will also help us to remember when the change occurred! When I look back over the past 12 months I don’t know how we managed to everything in! We held a Beer festival, an international reunion, several weddings both on and off site. We held wedding anniversaries, numerous birthday celebrations, christenings, Christmas parties and recently our first baby shower! Life can be so busy it’s good to look back occasionally and take stock and think blimey we’ve worked really hard this year and achieved a lot. Of course we have made some mistakes along the way, but luckily our mistakes whilst upsetting and annoying are not life threatening. We have learnt a lot! We revamped the smaller bar into a lovely dining/function room for smaller groups, decorated the hallway and currently making plans for the larger dining room. Of course we could not have achieved any of this without our fantastic team of staff. Running and working in a pub is hard graft but is very rewarding.
